Gingham plaid is no longer just for the yellow brick road!
We’ve seen the checkers skipping down the runways of Diane von Furstenberg, Oscar de la Renta and Issey Miyake, but I don’t think Dorothy is in Kansas anymore; it’s almost like Dorothy went to a rock show, so basically, we love it!
This once dated plaid is making a comeback with new and edgy styling, making it a perfect print to incorporate into your look!
Turning the print off-kilter and mixing the pattern with colour definitely takes it up a notch from the dresses your grandma used to wear.
You can style this new trend yourself by pairing a gingham plaid dress with a cute cropped leather jacket and some edgy red heals (there’s no place like home right?).
Wanna get super adventurous? Mix patterns!
Whether it be plaid and plaid or stripes and plaid etc., but keep this in mind: there can only be one SUPERSTAR. One of the two patterns needs to be the focal point, the other a background singer.
Once you have your two pieces, throw on a final piece in a solid colour.
If you’re working with two patterns that are black and white, why not try a red vest? Or a black jacket? If you’ve gotten super creative and have introduced a colour into one of those patterns (usually the superstar), keep the other pattern in neutrals (white and black, black and grey, etc.) and keep that third piece a neutral too.
Always keep in mind that your own skin tone can act as that third neutral, so in this case, just make sure you’re not covered up like a mummy.
Cute and fun, bring gingham into your wardrobe this Spring!
