Fresh Face for Prom: DIY Steam Facial

It’s true when they say that the most important accessory you wear is your confidence.

Confidence is not something that can be purchased in your local mall, or created with a quick DIY.  In my opinion, it doesn’t matter if you have a flashy suit, a cool limo, or an expensive dress, if you don’t feel comfortable in your own skin.

This holds especially true when it comes to prom.

Nowadays, people put so much pressure on themselves to have the perfect set of materials to make up the “perfect prom”.  The outfit, the shoes, the date, the ride; all of these are at the top of everyone’s list.
Prom represents the end of a journey and celebrating the fact that you’re crossing a milestone in your life, so I say, focus on the things that will accentuate your confidence and your inner glow.
I feel most confident when my skin is clear and bright, and I have one household remedy that I swear by, and it works every time!

My Fresh Face Facial will allow you to boost that confidence with a few simple household items.

What you will need:

  1. 1 slice of lemon or lime
  2. a bowl of boiled water
  3. 2 teaspoons of brown sugar

Step 1

Take a slice of lemon or lime, and squeeze the juices into your hand.
Apply a thin layer of the juice to your whole face, avoiding the eye area, as it will sting!
The juice is going to dry up any blemishes that you have as well as fade scars and dark spots.   For larger blemishes you may have to do this procedure 3-4 times. If you have very sensitive skin, dilute the juice with some water to make it less harsh on your skin.

Step 2

Let the juice dry on your face for about 10-15 minutes.  Your skin will start to feel tighter.   Let the lemon/lime’s antibacterial properties work their magic!

Step 3

Once your time is up, fill a bowl with boiling hot water and position your face over the bowl for about 5 minutes.  Be careful not to be too close to the water, but just close enough that you can feel the steam brushing against your face.
The steam is going to open up those pores and let the lime juice sink deep into your skin and clear all the junk out of there.
For the best results, I cover my head with a towel over the bowl of water, to trap all that steam in a small space.

Step 4

When your steaming session is complete, wash your face with cold water.
It’s important to use cold water to clear out and close up your pores.

Step 5

Now that your face is clean and rejuvenated, take some brown sugar in your hand and gently massage it into your skin. The brown sugar is going to gently exfoliate any excess dead skin off, letting the fresh new skin underneath shine through!
This is what is really going to give you that “Fresh Face” look!
Use your regular favourite face wash to clean off the sugar and any residual lemon/lime juice.

For the best results I use this facial technique at least twice a week.
It’s especially effective the day before a big event like prom because your face will be super fresh and provide a clear canvas for makeup and cameras.

As someone who has struggled with problem skin, I’ve learned that it’s important to not only take care of your face on the outside by doing things like this, but also to take care of yourself on the inside.  You will be amazed by what eating more fruits and veggies and drinking more water will do for your skin!

If you invest in yourself, your confidence will grow and you will begin to shine in ways you never thought you could.
